Austin Symphonic Band is honored to be invited to perform at the 2024 TBA Convention this July!
This exciting program includes the world premiere of (Delusions of) Grandeur by Christopher Lowry, winner of the first annual Young Composers' Contest; and the first performance of Hill Country Festival by Clifton Jones, composed in honor of Bill Haehnel’s 20th anniversary as ASB’s Assistant Conductor.
You’ll hear a variety of other great music, from the jazzy New Wade’n Water by Adolphus Hailstork, to Franz Biebl’s solemn Ave Maria, to Frank Ticheli’s dazzling Blue Shades. Come and enjoy an evening of musical excellence with the Austin Symphonic Band!
Take a musical voyage through the seas, with concert works that express the beauty and adventure of the ocean, and the courage of those who go “Down to the Sea in Ships.” You'll hear classics like Anchors Aweigh, Sea Songs and Who's Who in Navy Blue, as well as modern masterpieces like Mare Tranquillitatis and Midway March. You'll also enjoy a symphonic scenario of the beloved musical South Pacific, with songs like “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Bali Ha'i,” and “There is Nothin' Like a Dame.”
Are you ready for an exhilarating musical journey through some of the most magnificent structures in the world? Come for a band concert on the theme of “Grand Structures” — great music about great works. The concert will include works by Dmitri Shostakovich, J.S. Bach and John Philip Sousa, and end with the magnificent "Machu Picchu, City in the Sky," by Satoshi Yagisawa. Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of music!
Take a musical tour of the vast British empire as we perform selections by Holst, Arnold, Vaughan Williams and Grainger, as well as new music by Cait Nishimura and David Stanhope. We close the concert with the instrumental setting of the great comic ballet Pineapple Poll by Arthur Sullivan, which will surely send the audience home whistling many great melodies.
From soaring spirituals to toe-tapping marches, be ready to fill your dance card as ASB presents its first indoor concert of the 2022-23 season!
