The Austin Symphonic Band, renowned for exceptional performances, presents its third concert of the season. The program promises a diverse range of music, from the playful Variations on a Theme of Robert Schumann by Robert Jager to a new Clif Jones arrangement of the American classic Showboat. The audience will also experience the dramatic "Bacchanale" from Saint-Saëns' Samson and Dalila, and the world premiere of Sinfonietta by Ryan Fillinger — the winner of ASB’s Second Young Composers’ Contest. The concert will conclude with the energetic Dance of the Jesters by Tchaikovsky, ensuring a finale that's as festive as it is memorable.
The Austin Symphonic Band's second concert of the season is a stirring tribute to the World War II generation, featuring a selection of powerful pieces. From the rousing “Commando March” by Samuel Barber to the poignant “Lest We Forget” by Robert Jager, each composition captures the spirit and the emotions of an era marked by both tragedy and heroism. The concert is not just a performance but a commemoration of the end of the war, inviting the audience to reflect on the past while experiencing the timeless beauty of music.

The audience will be whisked away to the colorful scenes of "Occident and Orient," stroll through the charming "Paris Sketches," and fall under the spell of the picturesque “Mannin Veen (Dear Isle of Man).” The evening will crescendo with the spirited "Galop" from Offenbach’s opera Geneviève de Brabant. Feel the polyphony of Safely Rest by Nicole Piunno and be swept away by the mystery of You'll Come Matilda by Jess Langston Turner. With guest conductors Richard Floyd and Frank Ticheli wielding the baton, this event promises to be a memorable musical journey.

This exciting program includes the world premiere of (Delusions of) Grandeur by Christopher Lowry, winner of the first annual Young Composers' Contest; and the first performance of Hill Country Festival by Clifton Jones, composed in honor of Bill Haehnel’s 20th anniversary as ASB’s Assistant Conductor.
You’ll hear a variety of other great music, from the jazzy New Wade’n Water by Adolphus Hailstork, to Franz Biebl’s solemn Ave Maria, to Frank Ticheli’s dazzling Blue Shades. Come and enjoy an evening of musical excellence with the Austin Symphonic Band!
Take a musical voyage through the seas, with concert works that express the beauty and adventure of the ocean, and the courage of those who go “Down to the Sea in Ships.” You'll hear classics like Anchors Aweigh, Sea Songs and Who's Who in Navy Blue, as well as modern masterpieces like Mare Tranquillitatis and Midway March. You'll also enjoy a symphonic scenario of the beloved musical South Pacific, with songs like “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Bali Ha'i,” and “There is Nothin' Like a Dame.”
Are you ready for an exhilarating musical journey through some of the most magnificent structures in the world? Come for a band concert on the theme of “Grand Structures” — great music about great works. The concert will include works by Dmitri Shostakovich, J.S. Bach and John Philip Sousa, and end with the magnificent "Machu Picchu, City in the Sky," by Satoshi Yagisawa. Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of music!
Take a musical tour of the vast British empire as we perform selections by Holst, Arnold, Vaughan Williams and Grainger, as well as new music by Cait Nishimura and David Stanhope. We close the concert with the instrumental setting of the great comic ballet Pineapple Poll by Arthur Sullivan, which will surely send the audience home whistling many great melodies.
