Announcements for Oct 14, 2022

From the Board President

Hi All,

I hope everyone is having a good week.

I want again to thank everyone who helped get the concert announcement, postcard, emails, Facebook, website, etc. together. This takes a lot of work and hours and we are very lucky to have so many volunteers.

Speaking of volunteers, as I mentioned in Tuesday, we are looking for a few ushers for our concert. The volunteer will get into our concert for free and will also get two tickets for a future concert. So if you know anyone (or volunteer them), please let Lisa know. execdirector@austinsymphonicband.org

We are also looking for a photographer to help preserve ASB events (rehearsals, concert, etc.). The person doesn't need to be a professional, so if you know anyone, please let us know.

Everyone have a great weekend and I'll see y'all Tuesday.

From the Music Director

Hi ASB!

I hope all is well. Thank you all for a productive rehearsal on Tuesday. I appreciate everyone’s patience as we “dig in” on the literature. After the coming week we will be begin putting things back together and running longer chunks. In the meantime, I would encourage you all to keep up with your technique and maintenance by reviewing the sections we have cleaned in rehearsals so far.

For this coming Tuesday, our schedule will be s follows:

Gorb, Eine Kleine Yiddishe Ragmusik - target tempos are as follows: m. 1 = 88 BPM, m. 94 = 96 BPM, m. 137 = 88 BPM; a reminder that the stylistic things we addressed in the opening section carry over to the recap at m. 137 to the end!

Reed, Armenian Dances - focusing on m. 186 to the end, we will run m. 69-185 to make sure things “stuck” from last rehearsal.

Grantham, Exhilaration and Cry - WW, obviously there is a lot of technique in the opening that would benefit from some study – if you could make this a priority that would be wonderful. To all – in the second half of the piece, I would encourage you all to not overplay the volumes from 64 to the end; this is most certainly the case for the passages that consist of simple rhythms.)

-BREAK-

Milburn, American Hymnsong Suite – We will be working on the entire piece after the break; while the third and fourth movements are the most challenging, we need to spend some time on the first two. (We haven’t spent any time on movement 1 since the read, so if you could make that another priority it would be appreciated.)
