Austin Symphonic Band is honored to be invited to perform at the TBA Convention!
Come and immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of sounds with pieces like Percy Fletcher's Vanity Fair and the lively “Tex-Mex on the Riverwalk” from Frank Ticheli's San Antonio Dances. Feel the polyphony of Safely Rest by Nicole Piunno and be swept away by the mystery of You'll Come Matilda by Jess Langston Turner. With guest conductors Richard Floyd and Frank Ticheli wielding the baton, this event promises to be a memorable musical journey.

Celebrate the Fourth of July with patriotic music and fireworks! Each piece, from the stirring America the Beautiful to the lively Tex-Mex on the Riverwalk, is a tribute to the nation's heritage and diversity. The military service medley, Armed Forces Salute, honors our brave service members and leaves everyone with a sense of pride and gratitude.
After dark the sky will be ablaze with fireworks, each burst accompanied by the rousing melodies of John Philip Sousa's iconic marches. Music and patriotism combine to create an unforgettable experience.
Celebrate Father’s Day with a musical treat! The concert opens on an upbeat tone with the lively Vanity Fair by Percy Fletcher. The mood shifts to the inspiring Lift Up Your Heads by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, followed by the festive landscapes of Clifton Jones' Hill Country Festival. Frank Ticheli's Over the Moon sets a celestial note, while Jess Langston Turner's You'll Come Matilda adds a touch of mystery. Finally, Sousa’s Invincible Eagle and The Stars and Stripes Forever create a surge of patriotic pride.
The concert is free and open to the public. There are public restrooms nearby and a playground for the kids. Bring the whole family!
Join the Austin Symphonic Band, the Sugar Land Winds and the Mansfield Wind Symphony for A Sousa Spectacular! The guest conductor and lecturer will be Loras John Schissel, Senior Musicologist at the Library of Congress and conductor of both the Virginia Grand Military Band and the Cleveland Orchestra’s Blossom Festival Band.

The air will be filled with a diverse blend of melodies and rhythms, from the rich, complex layers of Ponchielli's Sinfonia to the stirring patriotic strains of Sousa’s marches. Ticheli’s lively Tex-Mex on the Riverwalk and the elegant Jazz Suite by Shostakovich promise to keep toes tapping, while Gershwin’s timeless tunes evoke a nostalgic charm.
This exciting program includes the world premiere of (Delusions of) Grandeur by Christopher Lowry, winner of the first annual Young Composers' Contest; and the first performance of Hill Country Festival by Clifton Jones, composed in honor of Bill Haehnel’s 20th anniversary as ASB’s Assistant Conductor.
You’ll hear a variety of other great music, from the jazzy New Wade’n Water by Adolphus Hailstork, to Franz Biebl’s solemn Ave Maria, to Frank Ticheli’s dazzling Blue Shades. Come and enjoy an evening of musical excellence with the Austin Symphonic Band!
Take a musical voyage through the seas, with concert works that express the beauty and adventure of the ocean, and the courage of those who go “Down to the Sea in Ships.” You'll hear classics like Anchors Aweigh, Sea Songs and Who's Who in Navy Blue, as well as modern masterpieces like Mare Tranquillitatis and Midway March. You'll also enjoy a symphonic scenario of the beloved musical South Pacific, with songs like “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Bali Ha'i,” and “There is Nothin' Like a Dame.”
Are you ready for an exhilarating musical journey through some of the most magnificent structures in the world? Come for a band concert on the theme of “Grand Structures” — great music about great works. The concert will include works by Dmitri Shostakovich, J.S. Howdy, y'all! Are you ready for an afternoon of music and fun? Come on down to the Austin Symphonic Band concert on Sunday. You'll hear some of the best tunes about Texas and from Texas, performed by our talented musicians. We'll also pay tribute to our former music director, Richard Floyd, who led us for 35 years with passion and excellence. You won't want to miss this spectacular show, so get your tickets today!
Take a musical tour of the vast British empire as we perform selections by Holst, Arnold, Vaughan Williams and Grainger, as well as new music by Cait Nishimura and David Stanhope. We close the concert with the instrumental setting of the great comic ballet Pineapple Poll by Arthur Sullivan, which will surely send the audience home whistling many great melodies.

The Austin Symphonic Band traveled to San Antonio, Texas to perform at the 2018 Texas Bandmasters Association Convention.

The band will perform well-known tunes, including marches and musical numbers, that you and your Mom are sure to enjoy! Get there early to select the best seating .. this concert gets more popular every year.
Peter Bay, Music Director of the Austin Symphony, conducts one of his favorite pieces for concert band: George Washington Bridge by William Schuman. He will be joined by guest conductors Cheryl Floyd and Dr. Brad Kent, UIL Director of Music and Conductor of the Texas Youth Wind Symphony.
Some of the greatest choral works in history have been beautifully transcribed for concert band, and some of the transcriptions retain choral parts. This concert includes works by Carl Orff, Percy Grainger, Morten Lauridsen, and others.
The Austin Symphonic Band will perform music by French composers and music about France. This concert includes works by Darius Milhaud, Claude Debussy, Martin Ellerby and George Gershwin, plus classic French marches.

The Austin Symphonic Band celebrates the rich and abundant heritage of music from throughout the Americas, performing music from our own USA as well as indigenous music filled with the ethnic vitality of Central and South American cultures.
The highlight of this program, in observance of Black History Month, will be the classic Lincoln Portrait by Aaron Copland, narrated by local performing artist Tim O'Brien.
The band's first formal concert of the 2015-2016 season features Ron Nelson's Aspen Jubilee with Austin Mezzo-Soprano Katherine Altobello.

2014-2015 Concert Season
For 27 years, the world-famous Boston Brass has treated audiences to a unique brand of entertainment that captivates all ages. This will be an exciting concert with something for everyone.
Featuring the world premiere of Dancing on Water, written by Frank Ticheli and commissioned by the Austin Symphonic Band in honor of its conductor, Richard Floyd. Ticheli will be present to discuss his new work and will also conduct on the concert. Other selections to be performed were written as tributes to persons, places or events.
The Austin Symphonic Band, a cherished ensemble in the city's vibrant music scene, is set to kick off its concert season with an eclectic mix of pieces. From the stirring patriotism of "Homeward Bound" to the lively rhythms of "Los Bailes Calientes," the program promises a journey through diverse musical landscapes. The audience will be whisked away to the colorful scenes of "Occident and Orient," stroll through the charming "Paris Sketches," and fall under the spell of the picturesque “Mannin Veen (Dear Isle of Man).” The evening will crescendo with the spirited "Galop" from Offenbach’s opera Geneviève de Brabant. This lineup showcases the band's versatility and the rich tapestry of community music.
