Our GivingTuesday Goal is $5,000
Total Raised: $5,834
What is GivingTuesday?
The first Tuesday after Thanksgiving is GivingTuesday — a global generosity movement created in 2012 around a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Last year, according to the GivingTuesday 2022 Impact Report, donations in the U.S. grew to $3.1 billion — a 15% increase from 2021.
The 100+ members of ASB are deeply grateful for your enthusiastic support!
can you help us get to $5,000?
Why Support ASB?
Last year we received $3,775 (76% of our goal). That was a year of rebuilding and “gettin’ the band back together.” This year we wish to exceed that goal.
Your support enables us to provide a robust year-round concert season of high quality music as we enjoy the second year with our new Music Director, Dr. Kyle Glaser!
Three of our six concerts every year are FREE to the public! We rely on your generous support to make this music accessible for ALL to enjoy.
We give back to the community: Every year we give away hundreds of free tickets to students, senior living communities, and Ronald MacDonald House families. We have several small ensembles that perform free concerts at hospitals, schools, and group homes throughout greater Austin. Our musicians also generously volunteer their time as band boosters and music coaches to support our host campus music program at Connally High School.
This year we sponsored the second ASB Young Composers’ Contest for any composer age 35 or under. We endeavor to encourage and support the careers of these young composers. The winner will be commissioned by ASB to compose a piece for wind band which will be performed in concert in the 2024-2025 season. We need help funding the commission, as well as paying for travel and hotel costs for our contest winner.
You can help with growing expenses related to marketing, staffing, community initiatives, and venue rentals.
What Makes ASB Unique?
Did you know that we are the Official Band of the City of Austin? On September 15, 2022, the Mayor and Austin City Council declared 9/15/2022 as Austin Symphonic Band Day!
We offer two different kinds of concerts:
Concerts on the Lawn which are celebratory, such as Mother’s Day at the State Capital, Father’s Day at Zilker Park, and the Fourth of July with fireworks at Old Settlers Park — and all are FREE!
Concerts in the Hall where we strive to present the best in wind band literature in a traditional performance setting.
We are a group of volunteer musicians from all walks of life who perform a variety of high level repertoire for the entire family to enjoy — there is something for everyone!
We have a huge YouTube channel of performed works that receives thousands of views every year.
