Ticheli’s lively Tex-Mex on the Riverwalk and the elegant Jazz Suite by Shostakovich promise to keep toes tapping, while Gershwin’s timeless tunes evoke a nostalgic charm.

Join the Austin Symphonic Band, the Sugar Land Winds and the Mansfield Wind Symphony for A Sousa Spectacular! The guest conductor and lecturer will be Loras John Schissel, Senior Musicologist at the Library of Congress and conductor of both the Virginia Grand Military Band and the Cleveland Orchestra’s Blossom Festival Band.

Celebrate Father’s Day with a musical treat! The concert opens on an upbeat tone with the lively Vanity Fair by Percy Fletcher. The mood shifts to the inspiring Lift Up Your Heads by Samuel Coleridge Taylor, followed by the festive landscapes of Clifton Jones' Hill Country Festival. Frank Ticheli's Over the Moon sets a celestial note, while Jess Langston Turner's You'll Come Matilda adds a touch of whimsy. Finally, Sousa’s Invincible Eagle and The Stars and Stripes Forever create a surge of patriotic pride.

This exciting program includes the world premiere of (Delusions of) Grandeur by Christopher Lowry, winner of the first annual Young Composers' Contest; and the first performance of Hill Country Festival by Clifton Jones, composed in honor of Bill Haehnel’s 20th anniversary as ASB’s Assistant Conductor.

You’ll hear a variety of other great music, from the jazzy New Wade’n Water by Adolphus Hailstork, to Franz Biebl’s solemn Ave Maria, to Frank Ticheli’s dazzling Blue Shades. Come and enjoy an evening of musical excellence with the Austin Symphonic Band!
