Celebrate a beautiful day with Mom by taking her to a free concert in her honor at the State Capitol. The air will be filled with a diverse blend of melodies and rhythms, from the rich, complex layers of Ponchielli's Sinfonia to the stirring patriotic strains of Sousa’s marches. Ticheli’s lively Tex-Mex on the Riverwalk and the elegant Jazz Suite by Shostakovich promise to keep toes tapping, while Gershwin’s timeless tunes evoke a nostalgic charm.
Join the Austin Symphonic Band, the Sugar Land Winds and the Mansfield Wind Symphony for A Sousa Spectacular! The guest conductor will be Loras John Schissel, music director and conductor of both the Virginia Grand Military Band and the Cleveland Orchestra’s Blossom Festival Band.
Tickets: $20 online (plus ticket processing fees) | $25 at the door
BBQ after the concert: $18.50 (sales end May 1).
Celebrate Father’s Day with a musical treat! The concert opens on an upbeat tone with the lively Vanity Fair by Percy Fletcher. The mood shifts to the inspiring Lift Up Your Heads by Samuel Coleridge Taylor, followed by the festive landscapes of Clifton Jones' Hill Country Festival. Frank Ticheli's Over the Moon sets a celestial note, while Jess Langston Turner's You'll Come Matilda adds a touch of whimsy. Finally, Sousa’s Invincible Eagle and The Stars and Stripes Forever bring a sense of patriotic pride.
The concert is free and open to the public. Public restrooms are available nearby, as is a playground for the kids. Bring the whole family!
